Situation
A customer engaged AJSS to perform a technical assessment of the proposals put forward by prospective oil suppliers to supply lubricants for the customer’s fleet of equipment. The proposal from each supplier consisted of a list of recommended direct equivalents to the lubricants (oil and grease) that the customer was currently using in its assets.
Task
The objective of the assessment was to validate the proposed lubricants for their compatibility with the customer’s existing assets. Additionally, the assessment provided the customer with the technical information needed for a further assessment in selecting a single supplier of lubricants.
Action
In this assessment, AJSS utilised technical parameters of the incumbent lubricant oil and grease products as the baseline to check the compatibility of supplier-proposed lubricant oil and grease products for respective applications.
The required parameters were referenced from the product technical datasheets available on the product manufacturer websites.
The motivation behind the compatibility check was to identify new products whose physical and chemical characteristics, performance standard and application were similar to the incumbent lubricant. These products could then be considered a direct equivalent to the existing lubricant.
Result
AJSS identified the proposed lubricant products that matched the physical and chemical characteristics of the existing lubricants. Therefore, these products were deemed suitable to be considered as equivalent alternatives to incumbent lubricants.
