Mike began his career at 17 by joining the RAAF, driven by a keen interest in aircraft and gas turbines. He progressed to obtain dual trades as both a gas turbine mechanical fitter and an aircraft airframe fitter, completing his 6th year of service at 3SQN on the FA/18 Fighter Aircraft, which utilised two General Electric F404 5-stage after burner gas turbine engines.
He then secured employment with the Royal Singaporean Air Force, initially specialising in gas turbines and airframes, servicing and maintaining a total of 30 aircraft. He transitioned into flight planning and logistics, where his daily responsibilities included coordinating flight schedules to meet customer (pilot) needs. His key role involved ensuring effective communication during pre- and post-flight meetings to instil confidence in flight preparations and provide clear explanations on all maintenance activities.
After 15 years with the RSAF, Mike began his career in Power Station Operation and Maintenance, working in both commercial and mining sectors. He has accumulated over 20 years of experience operating and maintaining GE Aeroderivative TM and LM 2500 engines, ranging from dual fuel with SAC combustors to the LM 2500 DLE models equipped with heat recovery systems. His expertise extends to all balance-of-plant equipment, including diesel generation, compressor stations, gas and diesel fuel delivery systems, fire systems, and high and low voltage control. He is also experienced in control room operation and maintenance planning.
Mike is known for his strong work ethic, prioritising honesty, reliability, and transparency, and he believes that prioritising health and safety leads to the best outcomes in any work environment.
